Winter is Coming... Keep it Bright

It's Sunday (again) -- time for Today's Flowers.

I was never all that fond of bougainvillea, but when we moved to the Moshav I came to appreciate all of their various shades.  This one is from last week's trip to Beit Yatziv (a continuing education center for educators, in the heart of  Be'er Sheva), where they've made quite an effort to keep their courtyards flowering and manicured, and it makes all the difference.  Winter may be coming, but the bougainvillea know how to keep things bright and cheery.

Keep the balance,

ALN

I've always like bouganvilla but learned from experience to be careful where you put it and that it produces some gosh-awful thorns when it is mature. Great shot.

Oh yes, the plant does have thorns. But the flower is very pretty.

My flower photo is posted here. Hope you can pass by if you have time. Thanks!

I learned about bougainvillea by taking lots of photos of it when in Israel (it decorates the Latrun museum beautifully), bringing the photos back to America, posting it on my blog, and then being told it's bougainvillea! I'll have to pay more attention to its qualities on my next trip, whenever that is.

Hi, so nice to hear from you. Lovely, tough Bougainvilleas, beautiful. I see them here flowering in places so dry nothing else wants to grow. The Bougainvilleas blaze away like there is no tomorrow. Great colours too. There is one called Bambino and it has not so many vicious thorns. Have a nice week.

Is that what bougainvillea looks like! I have only ever encountered the word in books! Thank you for showing me how lovely it can be. No thorns in books, however!
