Good Question...

The other day my second-born turns to me and says,

Mommy, why did G-d invent people?

My answer:  That's a very important question.  So important, that I need time to think about it.

(Everyone Needs Therapy is right - kids do say the darndest things).

Answers, anyone?

Ahhh, but you see, when I related this story to That Guy I Married, his first response was, "Yeah, we say that a lot but we don't always get back to them. We have to make sure to get back to her."

In other words, we're not off the hook.

Any other suggestions out there?

God invented people so that there would be someone to enjoy the beautiful world that he had made.

If the child is young, I'd give an answer. If the child is a pre-teen, I'd probe for and nurture deeper questions.

For the young child, I'd say, "Hashem made people so that we can be kind to each other."
